The subgroup focusing on Operational and Service Excellence in Partnership is creating a range of recommendations for improving performance and strengthening partnership. Its members are making recommendations to improve learning, accountability, problem solving, consistency, flexibility and support for unit-based teams.
Its work, which you can learn more about here, illustrates how our national bargaining goes beyond the traditional collective bargaining topics of wages and benefits. Past National Agreements have featured industry-leading approaches to workplace safety, workforce education and training, frontline performance improvement and workforce wellness, among other topics.
This year, in addition to Total Health and Workplace Safety, the two topics that will be the subject of negotiations by subgroups of the Common Issues Committee (CIC) are:
- Work of the Future: This subgroup is developing recommendations to ensure the workforce and Kaiser Permanente are prepared to deliver care of the future. Read more about what this group hopes to accomplish.
- Total Health and Workplace Safety: This subgroup is developing recommendations for how to improve the overall health and safety of the Kaiser Permanente workforce. Get more details about this team’s work.
Each of the three subgroups is co-led by a management and union representative. Over the course of as many as five bargaining sessions, assisted by outside facilitators, the subgroups will identify union, management and joint interests and then examine data and generate options to address the parties’ joint interests. It is expected that by the conclusion of the third session of national bargaining, each subgroup will report a consensus recommendation to the entire CIC on how the next national agreement will address the subgroup’s topic.
Wages and benefits will be negotiated by the full CIC.
